It has become very difficult to buy Manchester United tickets which is quite different then even just a few years ago. Nowadays demand is so great that Manchester United tickets have become a scarce commodity.
Manchester United is the defending champion in the Premier League and the upcoming season has potential to be one of the best ever. Teams such as Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal will provide some tough competition in trying to win the title and preclude Manchester United from becoming champions for the forth time in a row.
Manchester United did lose two of its most popular players in Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez, but nevertheless it is one of the most popular teams in the world. Just last month on its trip through Asia, Manchester United drew more than 200,000 spectators. The number of passionate fans following the team seems to grow every year and not just in the United Kingdom.
The downside to having a larger and larger fan base is that it has become much more difficult to buy Manchester United tickets. Even playing its home games at the second largest stadium in the United Kingdom (with a total capacity of 76,212) does not change the fact that almost every game is a sell out. There are several reasons why it has become so difficult to buy Manchester United Tickets.
The team has a large number of season ticket holders so that for every game, only a limited number of tickets are available. This is especially true for the big games against Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, the local derby with Manchester City, and some of the Champions League matches against the other top teams in Europe. The remaining tickets are made available to its One United members, which enter a lottery for every game that they want to attend. Everyone can become a One United member as long as they pay the annual fee but with the limited number of tickets available for all the One United members, someone getting tickets through the lottery should really consider themselves fortunate.
Unfortunately, the supply of Manchester United tickets will most likely not increase in the near future. There are no plans underway to increase the capacity of Old Trafford and the popularity of the team is unlikely to go down due to its recent successes (three Premier League titles in a row, Champions League Winner in 2006/2007 and Runner-up in 2007/2008).
