David Cutcliffe made a smart coaching choice by promptly announcing Sunday that Thad Lewis might be his quarterback for this week’s face-off against the Kansas Jayhawks.
However I have just one dilemma with the means Cutcliffe went about it. It really is such a minor thing and I was reluctant to even bring it up, however felt obliged to do it.
Cutcliffe acknowledged Lewis was one of a variety of players who had gotten the flu and missed practice time.
If you tell me Lewis is the man, I’m okay with that, mostly since I do not have a choice and you may care less what my belief is. However there’s moreover the fact that you are the head coach/qb guru and understand more than I will ever understand about that position.
There’s no need to tell me Lewis is not 100 percent.
He obviously insisted he did not want to create a qb controversy, but, as most identify, quarterback debates 9 times out of ten are created by fans and news organizations, not personnel.
If a qb controversy manifests as a result of Renfree’s good play and Lewis’ not so nice performance then cope with it if the questions turn up.
While I agree with his decision and swiftness of it he might have opened up a small door for criticism of his starter.
If Lewis doesn’t perform well at Kansas then Cutcliffe will surely be hit with questions about whether or not Lewis is one hundred percent and if he isn’t, why isn’t Renfree playing more?.
So for the coach’s sake I hope Lewis steps up and wins or has a great game, because the last thing the team needs presently in the wake of the positive of besting Army is a controversy.
Simply ask Coach K if you’re in search of a second opinion. He has been forced to cope with 1 or two of situations like this one.
