So the group phase of the World Cup is over and boy oh boy were there a few upsets. France and Italy met in the final last World Cup and this year it looks like they will be meeting at the airport. It’s the first time both previous finalist were knocked out at the group stages. So what went down exactly?
My assumption is bad planning on their side combined with perhaps a little over confidence. However we cannot discount the reality that this whole World Cup in general has produced more than a few surprises.
The reality that the ball tends to end up in the audience most of time instead of in the net and with the exception of a few games most of the games ended in draws or low scoring outcomes, the question is has the Jabulani ball thrown a wrench into the cogs to World Cup football?
Apparently not as heavy as most other footballs it could be the fact why this particular World Cup is so difficult to predict. Several players and keepers have complained that the ball swerves awkwardly and its movement is erratic. Just ask Robert Green.
The fever has spread to even those who wouldn’t normally like football and even Youtube has added a feature that mimics the Vuvuzela noise. One thing I will state however is the fact that this world cup is so much more interesting than previous ones. So between the Vuvuzelas, The Jabulani and all the upsets I can’t wait for the knock out stages.
