I'm sitting here at work with my collegues making an attempt to sell some woodburning stoves when the topic goes to lasst nights footie game and particularly one star player. Sir Alex Ferguson has coined the term “The White Pele” for Wayne Rooney. Sir Alex executive of worldwide successful Manchester United has borrowed the phrase from the 1970’s and 80’s white Brazilian superstar Zico. Naturally to be compared against a Brazilian and in particular the best soccer player to have enhanced the planet, Pele, is a massive honour.

Manchester United are one of the best supported football clubs in the world. They really are a worldwide brand. You only need to take a trip to Old Trafford to see the variety of races and folk who support this club. Lots of the English supporters are from outside Manchester too. This is truly outstanding.

Historic rivals Manchester United and Liverpool have been drawn together for what will undoubtedly be a blockbuster of an FA cup third round. The draw was conducted by Noel Gallagher of Oasis and Serge Pizzorno of Kasabian and the match will take place on the first weekend of January.

Sir Alex Ferguson earlier revealed Wayne Rooney’s intentions to quit Manchester United. Ferguson claimed to be “shocked” by Rooney’s refusal to sign a new contract and does not understand the reasons for his departure. His current deal is due to finish at the end of the 2011/2012 campaign.

There has not been a season in recent memory which has witnessed such a close title race in English football in over a decade or more. Since the advent of the English Premier League, most seasons have seen the competition reduced to a two horse race or either one of Manchester United, Chelsea or Arsenal dominating the rest of the division. Fortunately for fans of the league, this season has provided more twists and turns than can be afforded a donut. The result is a sweet concoction of action, drama, irony and incredible stories for the media and fans alike.
