Which variety of Jason Campbell is it Redskins football fans should expect to see this year? The qb who’s disliked and practically out of town? Or is he the 2nd coming of Doug Williams, as Clinton Portis had so expressively acknowledged recently?
Campbell’s performance is what the 200 year is all going to revolve around. Clinton Portis might finish this season with close to eleven thousand yards rushing through his lifetime, positioning himself for Hall of Fame consideration with about three or 4 nice seasons left in his career.
It will not mean much.
Malcolm Kelly can prove to be among the best youthful wide receivers in the league this season, capable of drawing comparisons to Andre Johnson and Calvin Johnson by the cease of the football season.
It won’t make a difference.
Brian Orakpo might be the second coming of Lawrence Taylor, wreaking havoc on the left side of the whole NFC East division.
It will not make a difference.
All that holds importance is that the team comes out on top in a minimum of ten contests, and that their quarterback is the most high-ranking individual in each one of those estimated ten victories.
Disregard the reality that he played 8 straight games in ‘08 devoid of an interception, it was all about the wonderful Clinton Portis in the course of that run. When the tide turned on the franchise, it wasn’t Clinton Portis who got the criticism.
It was Jason Campbell, who was not the only player with scaled back output during the swoon, although was the sole recipient of the sports radio and print media drama that came after.
Most people are in Jason Campbell’s defense, and no one heads up that group’s praise more so than me.
But from a neutral standpoint, there is a fine line between brilliance and calamity for him this forthcoming season, and nothing else Washington might do or is able to do will outweigh the steadiness he needs to show from the first game and later.
