Football players require both an excellent level of anaerobic and aerobic fitness due to the fast paced nature of the sport. These levels are slightly different depending on where you are positioned on the field as some positions require more anaerobic over aerobic and vice versa. For example a midfielder will generally cover a lot more ground as the game progresses and would need a good level of aerobic fitness whereas a striker would a higher level of anaerobic fitness due to the amount of short burst running required during a match
That is why it is very important to understand that there will be many different training requirements for the squad members as they will most likely differ in age, height, position and many other factors. Another important fact is that not all types of training sessions will have the same impact on all participants due to the factors stated above.
