Matthew Stafford saw his intro, and it was, how shall I say, underwhelming? 16-37 for 205 passing yards and 3 INTs.
It wasn’t that he was executing bad-looking passes. They happened to be tight passes that just happened to eind up in New Orleans Saints’ arms.
Stafford’s accuracy will be criticized for a prolonged period until he starts executing passes like the outstanding looking hook-up with Calvin Johnson on a regular basis.
And just what did we all expect to have take place? All those who were in support of starting Stafford, let me be the first to tell you, there will be further games like this until Stafford figures things out. However where was the running game? Where was the offensive line that showed such guarantee in the preseason? Where was the defense?
Ah sure, the defense - an area that was principally unnoticed in the 2009 draft as the team decided to concentrate on scoring.
No sacks on Drew Brees, which isn’t genuinely startling as he was only sacked thirteen times during the 2008 season, but wow, I do not think they laid a hand on him the full game.
I identify I had forecasted the Lions winning between six to 8 games this season…although now I’m not so sure. They won’t go winless; or I hope not.
The Lions are in a sharp learning period, and I suppose Jim Schwartz, Scott Linehan, and Gunther Cunningham are the appropriate coaches to guide the team in the right direction.
I’m additionally rather confident that as a result of this game, the Lions are going to be doing wind sprints until they fall over.
Although I’m not as fearful about the offense as I am the defense. The Lions did put up 27 points, and the majority of of the time, that is going to earn you several games.
Although giving up 515 yards, 28 1st downs, and six touchdown passes will not get you a spot at the Super Bowl unless you’re buying a ticket.
