There are many ways on coaching soccer effectively. You can even perform these useful tips.
A soccer coach must have the basic knowledge in handling a successful soccer team. Coaching soccer is a fun and satisfying experience, yet challenging.
Here are some 5 easy tips to help your soccer team grow and be successful.
1. Develop a plan for a soccer season
In a piece of paper, write an outline of your soccer team’s goal, mission, expectations, rules, etc. for the next season. Plan the activities that are needed to be done to meet your goal and expectations.
When you have completed the soccer plan, discuss it with the coach director, soccer players, and the players’ parents as well. Their views and participation contributes a lot in the planning. Write down everything you have discussed until you agree on everything written in the soccer plan. This is important for this will help you and your team work together towards one goal.
2. Develop your work in a fun way
It is important that you’ll be strict to the soccer players as a coach for you to gain their respect and to keep them in order. Remind them always that there’s a separate time for play and time for work. Develop enjoyable ways in your training session that will still help the players stay focused on the game.
Create fun ways of performing your soccer drills to help the players not to get bored easily, especially when you’re training kid players.
3. Plan the soccer training session ahead of time
Plan the upcoming soccer session earlier. A schedule of activities is a helpful way. You may list the topics such as dribbling, passing, receiving, or defense for the day as followed in your planned schedule. This will help you stay focused on the training. Always be conscious with your players’ response during the session. You may want to jump to the next activities to keep their energy up or develop games that are 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, small sided then full sided game.
To make sure your soccer team is progressing, always be flexible with your planned activities for the session.
4. Be approachable
A competent coach is an approachable coach. He should know each soccer player’s personality because every team member possesses different attitudes. It is important that you get to know them so that you will know how to motivate them according to their personalities. Establish a good player-coach relationship through being aware of their lifestyles, personal experiences and interests, school matters, etc.
Get personal but not too personal. Put in mind that you are establishing a good player-coach relationship with them, so just stay professional. This way, their respect to you remains because once that respect fades, it is hard to gain it again.
5. Monitor and do reports
A useful tool on motivating the soccer players is monitoring their performances. During the monitoring, take down notes for your reports about their progress. Share these to them, even the humorous moments, at every end of the game.
Here’s a bonus tip: Always acknowledge each soccer player’s game performance at the end of the session. Facilitate them on evaluating their performances as well through letting them rate their soccer game from 1-10, with 1 = the worst game and 10 = a perfect game. Be aware of their response and encourage them that they could do better. Ask them their recommendations on how to have a better performance next time and take note of them. You can make a new plan of activities for the next session out of their recommendations.
