A 38-year old man sits inside a small High School gym in Wisconsin watching his son and his son’s peers play basketball. It’s a sunny summer day on the outside, but air conditioning keeps the gym cool on the inside. You can hear a slight murmur from the crowd and the dribble of a basketball, but little else. From most accounts, this is a perfectly comfortable Sunday afternoon. But this man isn’t one of those accounts. He fidgets and sweats as if he was being placed in an oven. The man complains of hearing ringing, but no refs are blowing their whistle, no buzzers are going off. The other parents attempt to make small talk with the man, but he quickly feels overwhelmed and is forced to politely excuse himself. He gingerly steps down the wooden bleachers, looking as uncoordinated as someone who just finished a weekend bender. The man pauses at the door before reaching the hallway and watches his son fire up a shot as the first half nears a close.

I’ve visited the Buffalo Bills’ training facility twice during the preseason and I have to say that I’m very pleased with what I’m witnessing. This looks like a new Bills team, ready to build upon the moderate success of last season and I believe they’ll bring things to another level in 2009. Almost every element of the team is better than it was last year.

Last Saturday, the greatest sporting event in the world kicked off. No, I’m not talking about any strictly American sport, nor am I talking about MMA, basketball, or baseball, cricket, or any other sporting event that immediately comes to mind. Am I talking about the UEFA Champions’ League, the soccer glamour competition that ESPN and Fox Sports have created into a pretty common event in America? The answer remains no.

On an otherwise quiet day in Wisconsin, a high school gym is abuzz with a few students practicing their basketball. The gym is mostly quiet save for the regular sounds that take place on a basketball court, but one man hears ringing that no one else seems to here.

When attackers are faced with a number of defenders and they are alone running at goal it is often strength and skill that get them past and into goal scoring positions.
Your attackers need balance and strength to go with the skill of ball control. It’s no good running and dribbling only for a defender to [...]

There’s nothing worse as a defender than to have the ball played through your legs leaving you rooted to the spot unable to do anything about it. You’ve been nutmegged.
This sort of skill is the kind of thing you need to arm your players with, so as they grow more confident in games they have [...]

The English Premier League season is only a couple of weeks old, but newly promoted Burnley has already pulled off what may be the biggest upset of the season in all of European soccer. In their first home game at the top level of English soccer in 33 years, Robbie Blake scored early in the game and Burnley held on to upset reigning league champions Manchester United before 20,000 jubilant fans.

Almost every culture around the world has some type of connection to the history of football/soccer. Such cultures as the Ancient Greeks, Persians, Vikings, The Chinese, Japanese, and much more, played a game that is much like todays football/soccer. For instance, The Chinese played “footballer” games dating as far back as about 3000 years ago. However, it was in England that soccer / football really began to grow in popularity. After becoming popular in England, soccer became a widely loved sport throughout the world. The celebrated FIFA World cup led the way to the rise of soccer stars, and conferred world soccer records holders such as the player who has scored the most goals in world cup soccer history.

I can sit for hours and argue that a good coach can mean the difference between winning and losing, and then a good coach makes the headlines by struggling at their new club.
The victory by Burnley over Manchester Utd is important for coaches of youth teams for a number of reasons. First Manchester Utd lost! [...]
